Town Board Meetings
Speaking at Meetings
Residents are welcome to address the Township Board during the “Public Comments” portion of the meeting agenda. Comments on both agenda and non-agenda items are heard during this single public comment period.
How to Participate:
- In Person: You may sign up with the Town Clerk before the meeting (recommended but not required) or simply wait to be recognized during Public Comments
- Written Submission: Email comments to CLERK@JOLIETTOWNSHIP.NET at least 24 hours before the meeting. Please include the meeting date, your name, any organization you represent, and whether your comment relates to a specific agenda item
Speaking Guidelines:
- Each speaker has 4 minutes to address the Board
- State your name and the subject you’re addressing when called upon
- Address comments to the Board as a whole
- Maintain civil and respectful discourse
- The Board generally does not respond immediately but may provide basic information
Decorum Requirements:
Comments must be civil and relevant to Township business. Speakers may not engage in debate with Board members, make threats, personal attacks, use profanity, or disrupt the meeting. The presiding officer may limit repetitive or inappropriate comments.

Annual Township Meeting Resources
The annual Joliet Township meeting, held for the transaction of the business of the township, occurs on the second Tuesday of April each year. The annual town meeting has the purpose of electing township officers and transacting such business as the electors are by law authorized to transact. Annual meetings are open to the public.

Decennial Committee Meeting
On June 10th, 2022, Governor JB Pritzker signed the Decennial Committee on Local Government Efficiency Act (50 ILCS 70). This new law requires all Illinois taxing bodies to convene a committee to study and report on local government efficiency.
In Decennial meetings, the committee must summarize its work and findings within a written report, which shall include recommendations in respect to increased accountability and efficiency and shall provide the report to the county board in which the governmental unit is located no later than 18 months after the formation of the committee.
The committee consists of the elected governing board, at least two township residents, and the road district.
