Assessor's Office

About the Assessor's Office

The Assessor is an elected official who appraises property and place value on it. It is done according to formulas set by the Illinois Department of Revenue. It is from taxes levied according to these property values as appraised by the township assessor that townships receive their income.

The Assessor does not estimate or compute the real estate taxes, does not send out tax bills, and does not compute the real estate taxes. The Assessor is responsible for the fair and equitable assessment of all parcels in their jurisdiction. The current level of assessment for most properties is 33 1/3% of fair cash value per state statutes.

The Joliet Township Assessor is responsible for the individual assessment of approximately 34,000 parcels in Joliet Township. Along with the property valuation, the assessor’s office assists the residence with numerous exemptions, including senior and disability exemptions, on an annual basis. The assessor and his staff continually take assessment and appraisal classes to keep their knowledge up to date with current legislation and events.
