Notice of Temporary Entrance Change Due to Construction

We would like to inform the public that the front (south) entrance of the building will be closed beginning Monday, January 26, due to floor renovations. The entrance will remain closed through the week, and the work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on January 30.

During this time, the back (north) entrance will serve as the main public entrance to the building. The building will remain open, and all services will continue as usual. Our team will be available in the conference room at a temporary workstation, similar to our regular reception area.

We appreciate your patience and ask that all visitors please use the back entrance while construction is underway.

January 2026 Food Pantry Pop-Up

Joliet Township Government is partnering with Holsten Human Capital Development to help families stretch their food budgets with a free community food distribution.

The January 2026 Food Pantry Pop-Up will take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Louise Ray Community Center (formerly the Forest Park Community Center), located at 1017 Woodruff Road, Joliet, IL 60432.

No registration is required. Food will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Get Your Taxes Prepared for Free with Joliet Township’s VITA Program

Joliet, IL – January 2, 2026 – Tax season is upon us, and Joliet Township Government is excited to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for the fifth consecutive season. In partnership with Will County Center for Community Concerns, qualifying individuals can get their taxes prepared for free.

Understanding that tax preparation can be daunting, Joliet Township’s VITA program aims to make it easy and accessible for those in need. To qualify for this invaluable service, individuals must meet the following criteria:

Income Limit: The program is available to individuals with a total income of less than $67,000.
Residency: There are no residency restrictions. Individuals from any town, county, or region are welcome to participate.
Seniors: The program is free for all seniors (60+ years old), regardless of income level.

Here’s how individuals can take advantage of this opportunity in just four simple steps:

Pick up Their Tax Packet: Individuals can visit the Joliet Township Government Office located at 175 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL 60432, to collect their tax packet.
Complete the Intake Form: They can fill out the intake form and submit it along with their tax documents in the provided packet. The completed packet should be returned to the designated location.
Sit Back While Their Taxes Are Prepared: The team will meticulously review their documents and prepare their taxes. Once done, individuals will be contacted for a review.
Review and Sign Electronically: Upon completion, individuals will electronically review and sign their prepared documents. If eligible, they can expect their refund via direct deposit within 7-10 business days.

Save the Date for LIHEAP 2025-2026

Joliet Township Government will host Will County Center for Community Concerns (WCCCC) as they administer the Home Energy Assistance Program that helps income-eligible households with their utility bills and furnace assistance. Assistance is available to households whose 30 day gross income is at or below 60% of the state median income level. Assistance for utilities will be available from October 1, 2025 through August 15, 2026, or until funds have been exhausted, whichever comes first.

Applications will be taken at Joliet Township Government, located at 175 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, IL 60432 on the following dates from 9am to 1pm:

Wednesday, January 21
Wednesday, February 18
Wednesday, March 18
Wednesday, April 15
Wednesday, May 20
Wednesday, June 17
Wednesday, July 15

To submit an application, you bring ALL required documentation:

Social Security Card for everyone in the household
ID or Driver’s License
Income for all household members for the last 30 days from all sources
Any Household member age 18 or older will need proof they are or are not receiving benefits from DHS (Public Aid) or IDES (Unemployment) if there is no proof of income provided
Gas and Electric bill issued within the last 30 days
All printouts from other agencies, like Notice of decision packet from DHS, Social Security, TANF, General Assistance, Veterans Assistance
Mortgage statement and tax bill or Deed and tax bill, if applying for Furnace assistance.
Other documents may be needed based on your household situation

Application Now Open for the Community and Non-Profit Grants 2025-2026

Joliet Township Government is pleased to announce that applications are now open for possible program funding through the Community and Non-Profit Grants.

Organizations providing valuable services to the community may be eligible to receive grant funding under the guidelines set forth by Section 85-13 of the Township Code (60 ILCS 1/85-13).

Applications will be accepted electronically, to apply please visit https://www.joliettownship.net/services/grant-application/. To ensure your application is complete, please carefully read the COMMUNITY & NON-PROFIT GRANT PROTOCOL and upload the signed acknowledgment page with your submission.

Note: Due to limited funding, organizations may only apply once per fiscal year. The fiscal year begins on April 1st and concludes on March 31st. It is the responsibility of the applicant to determine the best timing for their grant request.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all funds have been awarded. Once all grants have been distributed, we no longer accept applications for that fiscal year.

Community Grant 2024: K-9 for Veterans

This Veterans Day, we’re proud to highlight K9s For Veterans, NFP, a nonprofit that Joliet Township Government has awarded with a community grant.

This incredible organization supports veterans with PTSD, helping them transition to civilian life with trained service dogs—all of whom are rescues.

We’re honored to support their lifesaving mission, providing veterans with loyal companions and essential care. Thank you to all who have served!

Joliet Township hosted a Free Movie Night at the Slammer’s Stadium this past Sunday evening. All families were welcomed to enjoy the movie Spider-Man No Way Home.

Thank you to the families that came out and enjoyed a nice cool evening at the park.
