Elections

Township elections in Illinois are conducted through the Consolidated Election system, held on the first Tuesday in April of odd-numbered years. The Town Clerk’s office serves as the local election official for township races, receiving nomination papers from candidates, certifying candidates to the Will County Clerk, and maintaining official election records. All township elections are governed by the Illinois Election Code (10 ILCS 5/) and the Township Code (60 ILCS 1/).

Township officers serve four-year terms and include the Supervisor, Clerk, Assessor, Highway Commissioner, and four Trustees. Candidates may be nominated through political party caucuses (held the first Wednesday in December preceding the election) or by filing nomination petitions as independent or new party candidates.

2026 General Primary Election

The 2026 General Primary Election (March 17, 2026) is a state and county primary election, not a township election. Township officers are elected during Consolidated Elections in odd-numbered years. The next township election will be held at the April 1, 2029 Consolidated Election, with the Consolidated Primary on February 27, 2029 (if needed).

A primary election is a nominating election where political parties select their candidates to appear on the general or consolidated election ballot. For township races, established political parties typically nominate candidates through caucuses rather than primaries, though some townships with populations over 15,000 may conduct primaries if their township central committee approves.
