Summer Internship Program 2024

Joliet Township Government, in collaboration with Illinois Youth and Family Services, is offering summer internships for local youth aged 16-24 through the Illinois Youth Invest Program. These positions provide valuable work experience within different government departments to prepare young individuals for future careers.

Summer Internship Job Description

Position Summary
Individuals interested in practicing their public policy, development analyst and/or administration knowledge and skills in a professional setting are welcome to apply. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the supporting elected officials and partner organizations with various projects and tasks as you gain more confidence within your desired industry. Partner organizations may include working in public health, youth coordination, business support, and more.

Assignments may be on-site or at partner organizations. Job duties can vary widely from day to day. On any given day, they may perform a variety of tasks, such as researching, planning, organizing, and coordinating. Must be able to respond and interact with residents, employees and/or others within and outside the department in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Responding to phone calls or emails, maintaining an organized administrative system, managing office calendars, updating databases, and restocking office supplies as needed.

· Use knowledge to understand residents’ problems/concerns and respond in a polite and timely manner. Direct to applicable staff for satisfactory service delivery.

· Greeting office visitors, ensuring guests are comfortable and relate to the right office personnel.

· Responsible for managing internal and external communications and facilitating key tasks and procedures to ensure efficient operation of their office environment.

· Perform many organizational tasks to ensure officials/supervisors have the most accurate and up-to-date documentation they need when they need it.

· Responsible for generating innovative ideas for social media content while working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team to boost community engagement.

Other duties:

· Collecting, filing, updating company records, and organizing office documents, such as reports and confidential records.

· Transcribing or taking notes during meetings and writing minutes, memos, and/or agendas.

· Create and distribute content such as blogs, infographics, videos, and press releases on social media and traditional news outlets.

· Prepare communications, such as memos, emails, invoices, reports, and other correspondence.

· Operating office equipment including printers, copiers, fax machines, and multimedia instruments.

· Actively participate in Township and Community events.

· Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to gather information from clients to identify and resolve problems by connecting with resources or programs.

• Effectively navigate situations involving difficult clients while displaying empathy and compassion

• Reliable, punctual, attentive to detail, and carries themselves professionally.

• Eager to get involved and possess strong organizational skills.

• Ability to adhere to the Township’s confidentiality policy.

• Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.

Education, Experience, and Computer Skills:

• Must be comfortable with all Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, and Canva.

Work Conditions: This position may require work on weekends and evenings for outreach events.
