Nick Tomac has served as Joliet Township Highway Commissioner for 14 years.  He previously served 2 years as Joliet Township Tax Collector, and 8 years as Joliet Township Trustee.

Tomac held the position of president of the Illinois State Highway Commissioners for 2 years, and was president of the Will County Highway Commissioners for 6 years.

Tomac was born and educated in Joliet.  He attended St. Thaddeus Grade School, Joliet Township High School, Joliet Junior College and Washburne Trade School. 

He served honorably in the U.S. Naval Reserves during the Vietnam War and worked as a union Cement Mason (Local 11-161) for 37 years.  Nick is married to Lois (Sicinski), and they have three sons.

He is a member of St. Mary Nativity Church and Knights of Columbus #4400.  Previously he served as a Board member for United Cerebral Palsy of Will County, and was the top fundraiser for the March of Dimes. 

Tomac is a member of the Northwest Recreation Club, the Joliet Antique Auto Club, the Italian American Cultural Society, the Croatian Cultural Club, and the South Side Civic Club.

Responsibility of the Road District is:

  • Maintain its 72 miles of road and 8 bridges.

Road and bridge construction/maintenance is one of three mandated functions of township government.
